Dusit Zoo – Once a royal botanical garden, now a zoo and leisure park

Set on the Rama V Road in the Dusit District of Bangkok City is one of the key zoological parks of Thailand, known by the name Dusit Zoo or Khao Din. This zoo is also famous for housing the world’s finest collection of gibbons – a small type of ape.

Not only as a zoo but also as a theme park, Dusit Zoo is frequented by 2.5 million visitors each year to see over 280 mammals, over 290 reptiles and over 1000 birds. You can also delight in a nocturnal safari and observe its elusive night-time dwellers up-close.

Long ago this site belonged to the Royal Dusit Garden Palace built by King Rama V. And in 1938 with the request of Thailand’s premier – P. Pibunsongkhram, King Rama VIII bestowed the land to the Thai government, and by March 1938 Dusit Zoo was completed and established in the premises. Later in 1958 the zoo was converted into a Zoological Park Organization in Thailand.

Dusit Zoo aims to educate and entertain its visitors while providing the best infrastructure for their inhabitants, and also focus on breeding the endangered species.

Hotel Royal Singapore can be said to be strategically located. It takes about eight minutes to walk to the Novena MRT station, which is only two stations away from the Orchard MRT station. MRT stands for Mass Rapid Transit, which is Singapore’s version of the metro, or the subway.

In addition, there is also a bus stop right outside the hotel that can take you to Orchard Road. And as you might already know Orchard Road is a well known and bustling shopping paradise in Singapore.

Dining in the hotel includes the 24-hour Trishaw Coffee House, Jade Room Chinese Restaurant and Kandagawa Japanese Restaurant. If that is not for you, then you could venture out to Newton food center which is close by. There are also restaurants and shops at United Square nearby. Anyway the corridors look newly renovated and the rooms are relatively spacious and clean.

For the business travelers, you may be pleased to know that there is a 24-hour business center and internet connection at a low fee. For meetings and conferences there are also seminar rooms equipped with the usual audio-visual aids.

At the time of writing the hotel charges an adult from about SGD 177 for a Superior Room to SGD 188 for a Deluxe Room. It could be cheaper if you book your room when there is a special offer.
