Our culture and tredition are most valued in Hinduism. Hindus celebrate lots of festival and each one has its own significance. Deepavali is one of the most auspacious and important festivals of Hindus.It is celebrated all over the India with great enthusiasm. Before Deepavali we could see the passion in people to celebrate this festival.Deepavali unites the country into one.Deepawali falls on the 15th day of the Hindu month of Karthik. It is commemorated on the dark night of Amavasya. Deepavali is a five day celebration. 1st day we celebrate Dhanteras, then Choti Deepavali and Badi Deepavali, after that padwa and Bhai duj. Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Biddhist all celebrate this festival for different religious reasons. Hindu’s celebrate it as coming back of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. And Sikh’s celebrate Diwali as the return of Guru Har Gobind to Amritsar after freeing 52 Hindu kings imprisoned by Emperor Jahangir in Fort Gwalior. For Jain it’s the day when their last Tirthankar Mahavir attained Moksha.On the day of deepavali we decorate our houses with rangolis; on the doorways we hang torans of mango leaves and marigolds for goodluck. We also light diyas and lamps to destroy the darkness. It is said that lighting of lamps repel against evil spirits.The main event of deepawali is deepavali puja or Laxmi puja. Deepavali pujan is perfomed after the sunset. Deepavali puja is essentially dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) and Lord Ganesha (destroyer of evils).Laxmi Puja is the main event on Diwali in North and West India. It is believed that Goddess Laxmi visit brings peace and prosperity. It is extremely important to keep the house clean and pure at the time of Deepavali as Goddess Laxmi loves cleanliness.As deepavali 2010 is approching we could already hear the sound of firecrackers. It is an indication that Deepavali 2010 is not far away. We can see the enthusism in the people while shopping. Everyone is exited to shop for themselves, for their near and dear one. As celebration of Deepavali festival is incomplete without exchanging Deepavali gifts. This festival symbolises luck, wealth, happiness and success. This is the most awaiting festival in India.
