The Canadian World Waterpark (as it was called), was located in a large shopping mall in the city of Edmonton, and it caught on quite fast. The reason? There are lots of rainy days per year in this place, and it is a city quite far from any beach: the Pacific Ocean is 1600 kilometers away, and beautiful Hudson Bay is 1400 km away (anyway, you won’t find a beach at Hudson Bay).

So the indoor water park in the city of Edmonton was an excellent flash of inspiration, and locals started coming in large numbers…and they still do now. They go crazy for the curly slides, the big river (they have a “lazy river” which is fun, I must say), the body slides,3+ rides,tube slides, and everything else a good indoor aquatic park is made out of.

And, if you want to see which are the really dandy indoor water parks, know that there are several conditions that help the place meet the standards: a good water park should have at least 2 tube slides, two body slides, one river (regardless if it’s lazy or “angry” torrent), one children play area with all the stuff they would possibly wish (geysers, slides, sand etc), one wave pool and other things.

Today, the European community, you’ll see tens, maybe hundreds of wonderful indoor aquatic parks. In Germany, as a matter of fact, in Stralsund, there is one of the most magnificent water parks of them all: the Hansedom Water Park. It is not just indoor, it also has open gardens and parks, making it quite appealing to tourists around the continent. Besides the requirements I showed you in the last paragraph, the Stralsund Water Park has a lot more things to show, like massage lounges, saunas, sport clubs, and much more. In their language such a place is called “freizeit park”, which means “leisure park”.

Other fascinating water parks are located in France, the UK and Portugal, but we’ll leave that story for another time. Nothing is better than enjoying yourself for two or three days at a “freizeit park”, don’t think I’m lying. It’s a pity we aren’t able to go there every Saturday and Sunday, but hey – we’ve got to work and earn a living, right? But should you ever make the decision to go to such a park with your family, let me remind you to keep an eye on the little ones, because sometimes these slides and rivers can be a little dangerous.

California Travel: Things to See and Do at Yosemite National Park

California’s Yosemite National Park is recognized internationally for its waterfalls, cliffs, groves, streams and biological assortment. The 1,200 mile park is one of the many UNESCO World Heritage sites found along the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The Yosemite region in east-central California is known for its spectacular panoramas, massive granite cliffs, mountain vistas and historical communities. Yosemite Park offers exciting destinations with about 750,000 acres of land and thousands of ponds and lakes.

It also has 800 miles of hiking trails and 1600 miles of streams. The park is a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles and about 4.5 hours drive from San Francisco.

The Yosemite Valley is well known for its cliffs, meadows, rock formations and waterfalls. The Half Dome granite monolith is one of the mountain attractions, appearing like a giant dome stone that splits in half. The vertical face of El Capitan is also famous among climbers.

Yosemite Falls is the most impressive and considered the highest fall in the world. Other accessible falls in Yosemite Valley are the Bridalveil, Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall.

Tunnel View is another standpoint that gives a full view of the valley located at the western end of Wawona tunnel.

The Crane Flat is an amazing meadow and forest found 16 miles from Yosemite Valley. Sites nearby are the Tuolumne and Giant Sequoias Merced Groves.Glacier Point is located just 30 miles from Yosemite Valley. It overlooks the valley and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges. Tuolumne Meadows is an open-alpine meadow surrounded by domes, peaks and the Tuolumne River. This area is available for snowshoes or skis from November through May or early June. Visitors can explore the meadows through Dog Lake trailhead for 15 miles.

Wawona is the place for Wawona Hotel, Pioneer Yosemite History Center of historic buildings and the Mariposa Grove.

Yosemite is great for those who love outdoor adventure. It has over 800 miles of trails for hiking. No permits are required for hikers who want a day hike to its many trails and footpaths along the valley. Some trails are easy but some are more tiring such as the sheer granite walls. Hikers may also encounter switchbacks, steep terrain and changing rapid weather conditions.

Backpackers can access the Glacier Point road towards trails in the Clark range as well as the parks along the southern part. Tuolumne Meadows also offers 8 different trailheads.

The Chilnualna Falls and Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias are popular day hikes at Wawona.

Yosemite Valley also offers stunning rock climbing activities being about 3,000 feet tall and having vertical faces. The Tuolumne Meadows is also famous for its high elevation rock climbing. The Yosemite Mountaineering School guides have been assisting visitors since 1969, showcasing an AMGA certificate.

One can also go horseback riding. Again, Tuolumne Meadows and Wawona offer commercial horse-riding at DNC Parks and Resorts, along with custom guided trips.

For those who love skiing, try it in Badger Pass. Their cross-country and downhill trails are about 350 miles. The tracks and skating lanes are connected from Badger Pass to Glacier Point. It is open during December and closed on April.

For backpacking, Little Yosemite Valley is one of the most famous sites. It is 4 miles from the Yosemite Valley floor along Merced River.

Lastly, Yosemite has 13 campgrounds, all with forest canopies and rooms. Campgrounds are available at Crane Flat, Wawona, Hodgdon Meadow and half of Tuolumne Meadows. Camping reservations are made from April to September.

Morecambe Bay Caravan Park Up For ‘North West in Bloom’ Award

Regent Leisure Park in Morecambe has been nominated for a prestigious ‘North West in Bloom’ award for its picturesque flower beds which welcome visitors onto the site. Regent Leisure Park is one of nine holiday home parks owned and managed by South Lakeland Parks. All of the holiday parks are located in the North West with four in the Lake District, four in Morecambe Bay and one in the Ribble Valley.

Park manager Daniel Thornton entered Regent Leisure Park into the awards on the advice of the judges of ‘Morecambe in Bloom’ who felt that the displays were above par. “We enter the Morecambe in Bloom awards every year and have often done well, however this year the judges described our entrance and displays as fantastic and recommended we take our entry further.” Said Thornton.

Having completed the entry forms the park received notification from the organisers of ‘North West in Bloom’ that they were to receive an award for the ‘Holiday/Caravan Park’ category.

Dusit Zoo – Once a royal botanical garden, now a zoo and leisure park

Set on the Rama V Road in the Dusit District of Bangkok City is one of the key zoological parks of Thailand, known by the name Dusit Zoo or Khao Din. This zoo is also famous for housing the world’s finest collection of gibbons – a small type of ape.

Caravan vacations have come a long way from when a holiday meant hiring a cramped caravan near the beach that some of us remember from our childhood. Up to date caravans are cozy and roomy with all the luxuries you need in a holiday home, some have King sized beds, en-suite facilities, flat screen TV with SKY or Freeview and are located in beautiful countryside, frequently by a river or lake. Or, if you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury and convenience you might consider a modern waterside lodge, these large holiday homes are ideal for a family, giving you all the room you could want.

Renting a holiday home in a UK park for a weekend or longer will give you all the facilities you require for an English countryside holiday. These caravans and lodges are generally fully equipped with modern kitchens, comfortable lounges, two or three bedrooms, frequently with en-suite bathroom in the main bedroom. They often have a private deck with table and chairs, you may well be overlooking a fishing lake, so you could fish right off the deck.

UK holiday parks have a lot of recreational facilities, especially for the holidaymaker, including, amongst many others, bars and regular entertainment, shops and facilities for fishing.
