How to Spice Up Your Life with the Variety of a Caribbean Travel Vacation

Article by Dave Pipitone

For those whose vacations get boring at the same destination or who want new vistas to explore, consider a Caribbean travel vacation. Whether that may involve sailing, botany, scuba diving or just lounging on beautiful beaches, you can spice up your vacation, and your life with a vacation in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean islands span a very large geographic area in the Caribbean Sea that is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Mexico and South America and includes hundreds of islands and vacation opportunities.

Nestled between the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and the mighty North Atlantic Ocean, Antigua is a tiny island that makes up the second half of the country, Antigua and Barbuda. With an area of 108 square kilometers and a fascinating landscape of low-lying limestone and coral islands with some higher volcanic areas, the island is a haven for people looking for a place to relax and have fun in their own tiny spot in the Caribbean. Places like Antigua Bay provide a tranquil and beautiful backdrop for your vacation.

A vast portion of activities you can do in Antigua involves water excursions, such as Antigua sailing week, boating, and yachting. But for the land-lubber, there is also a multitude of alternative activities available, including cricket, tennis, eco tours, golfing, hiking, bird watching, hunting, and riding.

The Bahamas islands are located on the eastern edge of the Caribbean, just south east of Florida. If you want to the variety of activities that include shopping, nightlife, and bustling centers, while exploring the beautiful beaches, then consider vacationing in capital city of the Bahamas, Nassau, or the impressive Grand Bahama Island.

Nassau features an eighteen acre Botanical Gardens with over six hundred varieties of shrubs, flowering trees and cactuses. The Gardens contain a huge collection of Bahamian and exotic orchids. Admission is nominal at around 1 USD.

But if you’re looking to be away from all the crowds and finding an intimate escape from civilization, you may want to be in the out islands of the Bahamas, like The Abacos, Andros, Acklins, Crooked Island, The Exumas, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleutheram, Harbour Island, and all the other out islands which offer the most diverse of experiences and private spots. Deciding on the island of your choice and the activities that you want to do will give you a head start in planning a Caribbean vacation package.

Andros is an excellent place to kick back and enjoy the warm Caribbean sun. Because most of the island is undeveloped, there are few phones, few bus lines, and other facilities that could distract you from your relaxing vacation.

Andros is not just one island but a group of islands tightly meshed into one archipelago. With its rocky shores and a web of creeks, this Caribbean luxury travel destination has never offered the kind of obvious harbor found on other Bahamian islands so, apart from the odd fishing lodge and Caribbean luxury travel retreats, development has largely bypassed it. However, what has made the island unsuitable for urban evolution makes it perfect for eco-tourism.

If you love nature, you will love the flowers of Costa Rica. Costa Rica’s flora biodiversity alone is made up of well over 10,000 species of vascular plants and beautiful flowers. As for trees, almost 2,000 species have been recorded in this small country in Latin America. This makes a Caribbean travel vacation to Costa Rica even more exciting, with such fascinating and endless number of natural habitat for various flora and fauna.

With its clear waters, corral reefs, and amazing sea life, St. Thomas is one of the best places in the world to go on a scuba diving adventure. The island is well-known for its seclusion and beautiful top rated beaches, but it is the scuba diving experience as a popular underwater activity that brings in tourists from all around the world.

Whether you consider yourself an experienced scuba diver or just a beginner, try scuba diving on a guided tour. Scuba diving tours are given by trained and experienced professionals. You may find scuba diving tours right off the coast or tours that are hosted off of a boat. Two excellent tour guides include Blue Island Divers and the Admiralty Dive Center. Both offer tours exploring underwater wreckage and underwater sea life, as well as diving lessons and tours are available for individuals of all ages.

There are many other varieties of vacation experience available in the Caribbean islands. Spice up your life with a dash of Caribbean travel on your next vacation and you will definitely want a second helping.

Caribbean Travel Deals And Information

Article by Frank Johnson

If you want to travel to the Caribbean, you have many options to choose from. Your Caribbean travel destinations include:

# Antigua and Barbuda# Haiti# Aruba# Jamaica# Bahamas# Martinique# Barbados# Puerto Rico# Cayman Islands# St. Kitts and Nevis# Cuba# St. Lucia# Dominica# St. Vincent and the Grenadines# Dominican Republic# Trinidad and Tobago# Grenada# Turks & Caicos Islands# Guadeloupe# Virgin Islands

Each destination offers its own experiences and exotic ambiance. Use this guide to learn about the Caribbean and what you need to know before you disembark on your trip.

Caribbean Weather

Most people travel to the Caribbean because of the region’s amazing weather. Sunny with a steady breeze, the Caribbean provides ideal weather for hours of sunbathing and frolicking in the ocean. All islands, for the most part, offer the same climate with slight variations in weather patterns here and there (and the occasional tropical rainfall), making any island you select an ideal destination for your tropical paradise.

However, the majority of the Caribbean is within a hurricane belt. This means that during certain times of the year, the Caribbean can be hit by hurricanes. The official hurricane season in the Caribbean is June 1st to November 30th with August to October being peak months. Now even though the hurricane season is smack dab in the middle of prime summer vacation time, you need not worry. With technology today and weather tracking, it’s now possible to identify when a hurricane or major storm will hit. So, if you’re planning a Caribbean travel trip, find out what the current hurricane season is like and how the island of choice will fair during it.

Southern islands such as Barbados and Aruba, on the other hand, lie outside of the Caribbean hurricane belt and almost never fall victim to hurricanes. If you don’t want to worry about planning your Caribbean trip around the hurricane season, the southern islands of the Caribbean are the best way to go.

Caribbean Activities

Each Caribbean destination has its own terrain and landscape, providing its own unique activities. Almost all destinations have amazing beaches, but some also have tropical rain forests and mountains. Puerto Rico, for example, has the only rainforest that’s part of the U.S. National Parks system. Aruba, on the other hand, is one of the only islands that offer a non-tropical environment, offering dryer surroundings. So, depending on your Caribbean travel destination, your activities are limited to the natural makeup of the island. But in general, your activities will include sunbathing, playing in the ocean, nature hikes through the lush terrain (if available), trips into town to purchase the local merchandise, and experiencing the island nightlife.

Caribbean travel destinations are the key to a tropical getaway. With many island destinations to choose from, all offering optimal weather and relaxing activities, the Caribbean is definitely a destination to put on your list of places to visit.

Off-peak Caribbean Travel: Summer means getting away for less

Article by Erin Keaveney

Known for perfect weather conditions and tropical ambiance, the Caribbean is a popular travel destination that sees tourist activity heat up in the winter months. But who says it can’t be a great summer getaway as well?

The Caribbean offers a perfect summer escape for any vacationers, whether it’s the newlyweds honeymooning after their summer wedding, or families with young children taking advantage of the school break. Since the peak travel time for the Caribbean is December through April, the summer months offer a host of benefits for travelers seeking an off-peak getaway.

Big fun, small budget

When booking Caribbean hotel accommodations and travel plans, tourists are bound to save big when taking trips to the from June through August. Resort occupancy rates drop drastically in the Caribbean starting in May after the last of the spring break crowd has gone home, forcing them to slash prices in order to keep guest quarters filled. Travelers report saving an average of 20 to 50 percent off accommodations during peak travel times when shacking up for a summer stay in the Caribbean.

Though air travel has stayed consistently expensive over the past few years no matter what months passengers travel, there are ways to save on airfare to the Caribbean in the summer. Try booking an unconventionally timed vacation (say, Wednesday to Tuesday), as mid-week travel is generally reduced. Traditionally, airlines have viewed Monday afternoon through Thursday morning as off-peak travel times in the summer, so book during these times for the best savings.

Since most people travel on the weekends, keep an eye out for discounted room rates and airfare deals during the week, especially when taking an abbreviated Caribbean vacation or planning a short stay that could be planned for a mid-week timeframe.

But what about the weather?

Tourists are often wary of traveling to the Caribbean during the summer, citing hurricane season as a major drawback. The official hurricane season runs from June to November, but is most active from August to October. A trip planned during the true summer months of June, July and August are fairly safe bets, as September is the peak month of hurricane season.

While you can’t fully rely on mother nature to cooperate with your vacation plans, planning travel during the hurricane season in the Caribbean could actually be a money-saver. In addition to the off-peak timing, some resorts have literal rain checks, instituting policies that offer upgrades or return trip discounts for severe inclement weather during hurricane season. Additionally, travelers might look into buying trip insurance to safeguard their Caribbean vacation from being a rain-soaked disaster.

To avoid potential hurricanes when traveling to the Caribbean in the summer months, avoid destinations that fall in the hurricane belt by choosing islands south of that area. The ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) are a good bet for excellent weather conditions no matter what time of year including the summertime, with the water temperature staying within one or two degrees of the winter thermometer readings.

A truly vacated vacation

Another bonus to summer Caribbean travel? Fewer crowds. With the threat of hurricane season and the local weather staying nice, would-be tourists tend to stay close to home in the summer creating the perfect Caribbean setting for families seeking a quiet, tropical respite or honeymooners looking for a secluded, romantic escape.

Besides the beaches being virtually empty, tourists will delight in the summer desertion of other facets of their Caribbean vacation. Dinner reservations aren’t needed, and spa appointments are similarly easy to come by. Sunbathers looking to relax by the pool are also in for a treat, as the dreaded vacation ritual of staking out lounge chairs at ungodly hours becomes obsolete in the summer months.

The absence of throngs of tourists that swarm the Caribbean in the winter might indicate a dead atmosphere, but tourists can rest assured that the local culture is lively and buzzing with activity in the summer. Many local happenings tend to pick up in the summer on Caribbean islands, including music festivals and sporting events. For example, Antigua’s popular summer festival, Carnival, takes place in late July and early August, offering tourists a unique experience that winter travelers miss out on.
