How Ontario Resorts Will Benefit From The New 2009 Provincial Budget

Ontario resorts anticipate a stronger season ahead. With a lower Canadian dollar, many recession-weary American tourists will once again be visiting Ontario resort areas, like Muskoka and Haliburton, where their dollar goes much further. In Ontario, tourism is big business. Its tourism sector contributes annually approximately billion to the province’s economy. To this end, Ontario’s new budget includes strategies to strengthen and grow the province’s tourism industry. The measures that support Ontario’s tourism industry included in the 2009 Ontario budget, demonstrate the government’s commitment to tourism and their acknowledgement of how crucial tourism is to job creation, economic growth, and its long term potential.

Delivering on some of the recommendations outlined in the recently published Tourism Competitiveness Study, the 2009 Ontario budget proposes measures that will assist both the government and tourist industry to become more competitive. If the Budget is passed, one of the recommendations of the Competitiveness Study that would be put into action is a substantial investment in new funding to enhance Ontario’s tourism attractions. Over a three year period, million will be spent on revitalization projects and infrastructure improvements to tourist attractions, such as parks and historic sites. Over a two year period the Ontario government will also invest .5 billion in other types of infrastructure that would benefit the tourism sector. This would include 3 million for transportation improvements for roads and bridges in Northern and rural Ontario and 9 million for new highway projects in Southern Ontario.

Another proposal contained in the McGuinty government’s new budget that would directly benefit the province’s tourism sector is a planned .5 billion in tax relief for small businesses. Small business is the backbone of Ontario tourism. As well, there is a proposed increase in spending on summer employment opportunities for youth which will greatly benefit tourist sector businesses. Summer students make up a large part of the labour supply servicing the seasonal tourism sector and Ontario resort industry.

In addition, the proposed single, value-added sales tax is estimated to save businesses more than 0 million a year in paperwork costs and greatly reduce the tax burden on business investment by providing input tax credits. The estimated net revenue generated from the proposed three per cent increase in RST rate collected on hotel and resort accommodations would come to approximately million. This would be used for additional tourism marketing as a further investment in the tourist industry.

More investment in Ontario tourism advertising is crucial to the growth and the success of the industry. Ontario has a wonderful tourism product and, with the government’s help word should get out to the rest of the world, improving Ontario’s competitiveness as a tourism destination. Ontario tourism needs to be marketed more in the United States and Europe and, if the 2009 budget is passed, this may indeed happen. With its magnificent scenery and many fine resorts, Ontario makes a wonderful vacation destination and the low Canadian dollar just sweetens the deal.

Turkish Holiday Nightlife

With Turkish holidays being as popular as ever this year, here is a run down of the nightlife in the most popular Turkish resorts.

ALANYA – The majority of the nightlife in Alanya is centred around the harbour, but there are bars and clubs to be found along the winding back streets. Most of the clubs close at 3am in the harbour but there are free shuttle buses to a place called ‘Auditorium’ which stays open until the small hours of the morning, it also has a large swimming pool which you can jump into if you get too hot!

ALTINKUM – Altinkum offers a substantial choice of restaurants and bars that caters for all clientèle. The majority of the entertainment is centred around the bars along the promenade and Dolphin Square. Clubbers can head for the open-air Medusa nightclub which is regarded as THE liveliest nightspot. Another favourite is the Dolphin bar.

ANTALYA – Antalya’s nightlife caters for everyone, with its multitude of bars and nightclubs.The hottest spots for dancing the night away are Ally’s and Club 29 in kaleici, Club 29 is the largest and most frequented club in Antalya which has amazing views across the Marina but if you just want a quiet drink then head towards the waterfront bars.

BELEK – Nightlife in Belek is mostly limited to the large hotels which provide their own entertainment.

BODRUM – Is situated in the south western corner of Turkey and is about a twenty five minute drive from Bodrum airport. The Bodrum peninsula consists of Bodrum centre and the small villages of Bitez, Yalikavak, Turgetries, Gumusluk and Gumbet. The nightlife in Bodrum is extremely lively and probably has more bars per square mile than anywhere else in Turkey. When it comes to Bodrum if you can dream it you can have it

CALIS – The nightlife in Calis is very laid back with a few bars, but for a more lively evening head to nearby Fethiye.

DALYAN – Is a largely untouched tranquil village, and consequently doesn’t offer much in the way of nightlife, the main bar street runs from Leon’s bar right down to the other end of the town near the M+M Rock bar. Quite a few establishments have traditional Turkish nights offering belly dancing with traditional music and food.

FETHIYE – Nightlife is relaxed with most people spending their evenings lounging outside the Hotel bars.There are a few nightclubs in the promenade area though.

GUMBET – In the evening this resort erupts with the sound of thumping music, there is something for everyone. Enough said!

HISARONU – The nightlife of Hisaronu is geared towards the Brits. English style pubs show English football whilst you drink your English lager.

ICMELER – Not the liveliest of resorts but if you fancy somewhere a bit livelier then Marmaris is only a short bus ride way.

IZMIR – The nightlife in Izmir can be as relaxed or lively as you wish, most of the action centres around the Kordon Boyu, Karsiyaka, and Passport Pier where bars and clubs stay open until the early hours.

KALKAN – Although a small resort, Kalkan never fails to surprise with the choice of entertainment on offer. Jazz bars, live music and dancing bars, It’s all here.

KAS – A quaint little fishing town with a modest selection of cafes and clubs, not particularly suitable for the younger crowd looking for a lively night out.

KEMER – Kemer can get quite lively in high season. There are numerous late bars and a couple of clubs to choose from.

KUSADASI – The nightlife of Kusadasi is one of the best in Turkey, the busiest (and loudest) area is in Bar street and stays open until about 4am. The Ladies beach area and Old Kusadasi isn’t as lively but has an excellent selection of clubs and bars and finally there are a handful of Beach Clubs where you can lounge around during the day on big cushions and dance the night away.

MARMARIS – is one of the busier Turkish resorts and is probably the most European out of all the resorts too, it is approximately one hour and twenty minutes from Dalaman International airport and is in the South west corner of Turkey.

OLU DENIZ – Although it has a plentiful supply of bars along its waterfront if its something livelier that you’re looking for then Hisaronu is just a short Dolmus bus ride away.

SIDE – The majority of the nightlife is centred along the beach-front, there are a few lively bars but they tend to be early closers.

TURUNC – has quite a few relaxed bars and cafes but if it’s livelier nightlife that you’re after then head to Marmaris or Imeler.

Reasons to Go to an Indoor Water Park

Aquatic parks are ideal for amusement and recreation for each member of the family:daddy can splash around a bit and then sit back and relax while having a cup of tea and browse his magazine; mother can use her sunscreen and take a sunbath, while the little ones decide to go on all rides they can see, and grandmother watches over all of them. In the summer, it would be certainly a nice way to relax, but what can we do in the case it’s too cold to be outside and get a tan? The solution is not hard at all: get to an indoor water park!

Indoor aquatic parks have first appeared in Canada, around 1985, and in a few years their popularity sky-rocketed, first in the United States of America, and Europe was next. The Canadian World Waterpark (as it was called), was located in a large shopping mall in the city of Edmonton, and it caught on quite fast. The reason? There are lots of rainy days per year in this place, and it is a city quite far from any beach: the Pacific Ocean is 1600 kilometers away, and beautiful Hudson Bay is 1400 km away (anyway, you won’t find a beach at Hudson Bay).

So the indoor water park in the city of Edmonton was an excellent flash of inspiration, and locals started coming in large numbers…and they still do now. They go crazy for the curly slides, the big river (they have a “lazy river” which is fun, I must say), the body slides,3+ rides,tube slides, and everything else a good indoor aquatic park is made out of.

And, if you want to see which are the really dandy indoor water parks, know that there are several conditions that help the place meet the standards: a good water park should have at least 2 tube slides, two body slides, one river (regardless if it’s lazy or “angry” torrent), one children play area with all the stuff they would possibly wish (geysers, slides, sand etc), one wave pool and other things.

Today, the European community, you’ll see tens, maybe hundreds of wonderful indoor aquatic parks. In Germany, as a matter of fact, in Stralsund, there is one of the most magnificent water parks of them all: the Hansedom Water Park. It is not just indoor, it also has open gardens and parks, making it quite appealing to tourists around the continent. Besides the requirements I showed you in the last paragraph, the Stralsund Water Park has a lot more things to show, like massage lounges, saunas, sport clubs, and much more. In their language such a place is called “freizeit park”, which means “leisure park”.

Other fascinating water parks are located in France, the UK and Portugal, but we’ll leave that story for another time. Nothing is better than enjoying yourself for two or three days at a “freizeit park”, don’t think I’m lying. It’s a pity we aren’t able to go there every Saturday and Sunday, but hey – we’ve got to work and earn a living, right? But should you ever make the decision to go to such a park with your family, let me remind you to keep an eye on the little ones, because sometimes these slides and rivers can be a little dangerous.

It wasn’t until about three years ago that I started drinking coffee. It all began when I visited one of those trendy coffee bars with a friend. I told her that coffee wasn’t really something I indulged in and she insisted that I try a particular concoction that had a very long name and some delicious whipped cream on top. That was the start of my coffee obsession. My friend was quick to notice how I became a lover of all things java and she got me a membership to one of the coffee of the month clubs for my birthday.

Ideal doesn’t even begin to describe this present. If you’ve ever purchased a gourmet cup of coffee you know how expensive it can be. It can be intimidating to try a new flavor simply because of the price. When a cup of coffee costs more than five dollars you want to ensure you’re going to enjoy it. With the coffee of the month clubs you can try a new flavor each and every month, so you’ll know what you like and don’t like.

Where you live isn’t really a consideration. The samples of fresh ground coffee are mailed directly to you. You can give the coffee of the month clubs either your home or work address. Most send out a sample that will make between ten and twelve cups of coffee, so sharing it with office mates is always a nice idea. In fact some offices join the coffee of the month clubs by having each employee contribute a small amount of money towards the cost. Once the coffee arrives, they purchase some pastries and have a coffee tasting party.

Another version of this type of club can be found at some of the high end coffee bars. You can purchase a card which works much the same as the coffee of the month clubs. Each month many of these types of establishments feature a new and original coffee flavor. Your card will entitle you to a free cup of the featured coffee each month. After so many months, you earn a reward that might be a mug or a package of coffee to take home. For someone who drinks a lot of coffee, it’s actually a great bargain as well as an inexpensive way to taste the newest inventions in the world of coffee.

If you can’t go going in the morning without your daily boost of caffeine, you should seriously consider joining one of these clubs. Although many people swear by black coffee, they would be pleasantly surprised to know that by adding a bit of flavor, the coffee can take on a whole new richness and appeal. Coffee of the month clubs deliver a burst of taste right to your door and into your favorite mug.
